Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your woes. One of the problems of
older cars (not just kit cars) is that they may have had several owners who
have all left their mark so to speak. Feel free to ask questions. there is
bound to be someone who has came accross the same problem and can give some
guidance.

Subject: [Quantum Owners] new to this forum
Hello all, i am a long term owner of various kit cars and specials (no
children......would have loved them but .....so i have daft cars
instead) and am about to put a 2+2 on the road, for the winter while i
rebuild my other long term Kit car a 31 year old Dutton Phaeton S1,
after which my wife will drive it. Well technically it's her car, but
she doesn't like the seating position, as it's too low. It's one of
the things i have to fix for her. We have both been members of the QOC
for the last 3 years, it's about time the car was put on the road.
I have had to source an engine (CVH 1600) and found it wasn't as good
as advertised so it needed to be rebuilt, as a consequence i will be
looking for another one as it has some issues that need sorting, but
it will do for now. the carb is an XR3 carb and it doesn't seem to
open the second choke, although the vacuum diaphragm is operating as
it should, i may have to convert to manual operation or swap carb,
also when it was bought as an abandoned project it was advertised as
having a 5 speed box, it doesn't it has a 4 speed, not an issue for
now but a 5 speed will have to be found.
The electrics on this car when you consider that they are fairly
standard donor, were in an awful mess and about 20-30 foot of extra
wire has been removed from under the bonnet alone, i don't know how
Quantum recommended that the headlamp flaps were connected but mine
open with the side lights now and also if the main beam flash switch
is operated. (just use some diodes to trigger the relay) it used to
have both the side lights and dip beam connected to the relay to
activate the head lamp flaps, as a consequence if you switched on the
side lights you also got the dip beam on, DOH! The side repeater
indicator lights were fitted but wired up with bell wire! and only
connected by one of the wires (i wonder why they don't work then) they
also had the connection just behind the front indicators, when there
was a perfectly good connection less than 2 foot from where they were
fitted!
When you consider that the quantum needs nothing altered from the
fiesta donor it it amazing how many things i have found badly bodged,
even the brake master cylinder has pieces of plastic behind some of
the bolts to pack it out, not even steel washers, use the brakes in
anger and the cylinder is likely to fall off or break loose. some
people shouldn't build cars.
I hope when i put an MOT on this car it I can enjoy the Quantum
experience, i have always liked the Quantum and now i have the
opportunity to see if it lives up to my expectations. I hope to post
more often and will from time to time ask for various bits of advise.
And offer up advise where it falls under some area of experience of
mine, Bye for now Dave.
