Hi Glyn, I had a simular problem. Opening from the inside got more and more dificult in time. At one time I could not open the door from outside.
I discoverd that the mechanism of inside lever to open the door was partly broken. Bought a new one from Ford - still available - and the problem was fixed . . . .
