Got S3-090 taxed after the winter lay up and filled her up to the brim with the good stuff. Ouch. £39.20 and I'll be lucky to get 180 miles from that! Damn my right foot. I'm sure it was less than £30 last year.
Ok so it's dark, but not raining and roads are bone dry so roof goes in the boot. She's not moved in 5 months, but fires after a few turns and idles smooth. 3833 on the clock... Less than 350 miles in the last year (hang head in shame). Cap and gloves on, drive carefully and gently down to the A500, warming up and scraping the rust off the disks on the way. Temp and pressure are good. No unusual sounds and she feels good. Decide to risk it. Flick round the roundabout at Nantwich in 2nd, check no traffic visible, and floor it down the dual carriageway. Red line, red line, hang in there, how fast do I dare... Nerves get the better of me as the needle passes the ton and I back off. It's all over in moments. I'd forgotten what it feels like. The roar of exhaust and wind is deafening, but the adrenalin is pumping. Brakes straight and hard back down to 70. 5th. Cruise. Down to second round the Shavington roundabout and back up the bypass for another go. Yep, still does it. Make a mental note to cure that exhaust rattle since repacking it, but other than that sounds just the same as normal. Loud. Back on the driveway. 3843 on the clock. Feeling cold, and fingertips buzzing a bit. I breathe a sigh of relief as nothing fell off and I lived. The first trip out is always good. Makes me wonder if I want that Corrado after all. 090's my baby. The car I built. Not perfect, needs some work, but mine. Testament to too many late nights in the garage and a marriage nearly lost through my divided attentions (trying to get the car finished before first born arrived). I don't think the heart will let her go easily, but it comes down to this... Ear defenders arriving for 5 year old son tomorrow. If he'll be my passenger (far more sedate driving assured) then I keep her for another year. If not it goes for sale and if successful then the Corrado search begins (management approval required). Fingers crossed for success with the ear defenders and a pass without issues at the MoT next week. You'll know the outcome if you see me at Stoneleigh. Either I'll have a small lad with me wearing a bright red set of ear defenders, or there'll be a For Sale sign on the windscreen.
