That's a lot further proud than it should be, it should be pretty much
flush.
Does your header rail have the 3 recess in it that the blocks locate into ?
Can you take a picture of the front of the header rail ?

ok so i know my soft top is in terrible condition but i thought id
have a go at fitting it prior to getting a replacement, after much
stretching and pulling i got it into place but the middle of the
header rail appears to sit proud of the screen top? is this normal? it
appears to be located onto the 3 lugs that protrude from the screen
top but really doesn't look very flush
