If you look around the breakers you can find the original type trim clips in various types and lengths. With careful drilling you can use these clips in there original locations on the trim. If you have some old trim panels then just drill holes through the centre of the metal clip retains from the rear of the panel. Hold the panel in place on the door and then drill through the pilot holes from the other side. Then open them out to the correct size (the correct size needs some experimenting on a spare bit of fibreglass. I'd do a couple first, fit some clips and then use that to hold the panel in the correct place to drill the rest.

If you don't have spare trim panels it's a bit harder.
I modified one clip, removing the end of it and replacing it with a sharpened piece of rod. This could be then clipped into the trim, the trim pressed against the door and the point marked where to put the hole. Works much better if you sticking masking tape to the door in the area where the clips will go.

The Mk3 Fiesta trims have some very useful looking 2 part clips, a sort of plug and socket arrangement, this might work even better as the socket could be bonded into the door.

The car is through the mot with not much trouble, (1800 non turbo
diesel), fitted some nice seats from a low mileage but rotten mk2
ghia, was wondering about a better method for fixing the door cards
and rear trims. The ones I have are fixed with self tappers and
bevelled washers and really this doesn't look so nice as you can see
the screw heads. Any better ideas as the new panels I have from the
ghia are quite smart.
Am I right in thinking the xr2 roof clock does not fit the Quantum?
