Thanks for the input. The engine is a 1.6 CVH. The valve vents to the open air but on seeing the picture on my Haynes manual the valve was plumbed backwards & upside down doh!. This was on the car when I bought it four years ago & has not been touched. The car seems smoother since the valve was corrected but this may be psychological. We will see. JimT
