Hi again yes inferior is a very good word to use when refering to some
other
kit cars.
I went to look at my Quantum Turbo with the intention of taking the
engine
and putting it in my Robin Hood S7 and putting an XR2 engine in the
Quantum
but when I drove and looked closely into the two cars I needed a couple
of
seconds to decide that the Hood moves on to the next owner.
The 2+2 is a great little car and with one or two upgrades can be made
into
a winter car too. My heater roasts my legs and does not touch the
demisting
screen grr must fix.
I think that it will stay with me too.

Again, all valid remarks. I remember building my first kit car (a Dutton
Melos) as it was a cheaper, non rusting alternative in the days when used
cars (and new of course) were a lot more expensive in real terms, and
fuel
only 50p a gallon (oops showing my age!). It's really irritating to see a
Dutton advertised for a higher price than a Quantum though, as the D was
very much an inferior product!

I too have built a Quantum 2+2 and an impractical kit car (Blackjack
Avion) with no roof or screen and just a cubby hole for carriage. But
I would not sell either of them because I have built them and even now
(after over 10 years of Quantum and 4 years of Avion use ) I get a
zing out of driving either of them. They become family pets in
addition to transport. Yes it's the Avion that people keep making me
offers to buy on the street or follow me home just to find out what it
is. But it's the Q I drive to work each day summer or winter or take
to London on the motorway. I will not part with either of them. Kit
cars 1, Normal cars 0 as far as I am concerned. If I cannot drive
them or convert them to something that can be driven in future they
will become 'gate-guardians' or garden ornaments!
Guess which one my wife drives? Yes the Q. (Sometimes you can have
too much interest) But the basic equation we have to fill is; a hobby
that also doubles as a necessity. (transport) So the Q scores highly
on that basis. Win - Win. To take that further, given the costs of
the tax, insurance and maintenance I can run these two kits cars
cheaper than one ordinary car. (QOC what a great insurance deal!) So
why not celebrate the Q's for what they can offer and accept the
rest? If most people cannot see the benefit maybe we need to educate
them. I still think prices are lower than they should be because the
general public don't understand what Q's offer. e.g my Son has run a
Q Coupe for the last five years and even now the whole years running
cost for the Q are less than just the insurance for a VW Polo at age 26!
Perception depends on your frame of reference.
