Hi Harry,
welcome to Q ownership. i had the same problem when I first
bought my 2+2 - I decided to change all of the springs and shocks/struts.
the fronts had no damping effect at all and this was what caused the
wallowing - I'd have though it was the rearson cornering. I fitted XR2
springs and struts on the front and standard fiesta on the rear after asking
the same questions that you have. some have gone for after market items and
lowered springs but it's really down to personal taste and budget. With my
set up and a set of Toyo R888 185/60 14 tyres the car is go kart like in its
handling. I only get rubbing on the rear arches when driving hard with a
passenger and a boot full of tools, spare wheel, extra fuel etc but is fine
under normal driving.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input guys.
Ill try some 185/45/15's i think, see how they are and if they're still
rubbing i'll trade my 15's in for some 14's.
On a side note, what are your 2+2's like under acceleration? I get a lot of
rear wallowing and sag. If that's not inherent, what spring/shock combo can
i replace the old ones with?
I apologise for my ignorance, but i'm willing to soak all you've got up!
Thanks,
H

Hi
I know what you mean about the roundabouts :)
I have 185/55/R14 fitted with xr2 shocks, not sure about the springs
but i experience no rubbing even when the boot is full

Hi there, I’ve recently acquired my first Quantum 2+2 and my first
impressions are, wow! The licence plate is F229 UPB, if by any chance
one of you have owned it! However, after a few Sunday drives a couple
of niggles have appeared.
Firstly and quite worryingly, under harsh acceleration/cornering,
particularly around roundabouts (i can’t resist), the rear arches do
rub against the outside of the rear wheels. It’s running 195/50/R15
tyres, which I don’t believe are the problem, but if any of you do
think they are the problem, please say. Other than that, could I have
some advice on what springs/shocks to replace the current ones with to
avoid the problem?
Secondly, the engine is a 1.4cvh head with a 1.8 bottom end. Well,
this is what the guy i bought it off has told me! The issue here is,
the dipstick is from the 1.4 block so does not even reach the oil with
a fresh 3.5L in. So my question is, will the 1.8 cvh dipstick be fit
for purpose? Or, if any of you could point me in the right direction
to what dipstick would suit/someone in the know, it’d be greatly
appreciated.
FYI, the quantum was registered in 1992 and is based on a 1.4 mk2 of
1989. The now 1.8 engine has been gas flowed with a kent cam and
scorpion exhaust with a TDLM carb. It’s a beautiful black, with some
tidy 15” alloys. 0-60 has been timed at 7.8
Thanks for reading this far, any information will be greatly
appreciated.
