Indeed I had this very fault early in my Quantum care! The relay is a pink one and a loop of wire can prove this by bypassing the relay and connecting direct. However I had a seperate lead entirely that I connected the pump to and it ran fine so I got another relay, but they fetch good money on Fleabay as they are often going wrong. Good luck and Happy Christmas or if like me you celebrate the winter solstice.

My 8v XR2i-based H4 isn't starting, and it's a fuel problem which
suddenly appeared last week. When you turn the ignition on, the pump
buzzes for about a second; if you do this 3 or 4 times, then turn the
engine over, it fires and runs for about 3 seconds, then stops as the
fuel in the rail runs out. The return pipe to the tank is empty, and
gurgles are heard if you disconnect it; similarly, there's a slight
hiss when the petrol cap is removed.
The fuel filter hasn't been changed in an unknown period, so that's
first on my list, then a check of all the flexible hoses in the flow
and return, although at a quick glance they're OK.
- Is this problem likely to be a fuel pump failure?
- Do any other pumps apart from the 8v 1600i XR2i pump work for the
1600 EFI engine? (eg the 1800 Si pump)
- Can I get the pump/sender assembly out of the tank through the flap
under the back seat, or do I need to drop the tank? (It's half full at
the minute, so I'd rather not!)
Could it be an airlock in the return pipe?

Best regards
Chris
