If you think about the entire drive train you have two points where traction can be lost clutch and wheels. Traction will be lost at the easiest place.
The typical time you notice wheels slipping is when pulling away. You need more power to accelerate a heavy car, the higher the power the more likely a loss of traction. At full power it makes no difference the weight of the car so long as the wheels have traction a the full power will be trying to go through the clutch. When you are in a light car you are using less power for the same effect so the normal clutch may be fine. If you are on the power all the time and the clutch cannot handle it then you need an updated one. This is all based on my poor grasp of physics - someone will be along to correct me shortly. About the power change, I had a standard focus twin cat down pipe, now I have a straight thru stainless exhaust. Technically I have a completely different engine, compression ratio and ecu map as well! I've nothing to backup my claim as I cannot find a rolling road that can keep it strapped down. Use the original and see how long it lasts ;) M On 16 Jan 2012, at 23:20, Jim Hearne <[email protected]> wrote: > I'm not a figures person but to me it makes sense that a clutch that is > designed to accelerate the weight of a Mondeo is going to be much less likely > to slip trying to accelerate the Xtreme. > Apart from anything else i'm sure the wheels will spin much easier on the > Extreme > > On 16/01/2012 21:59, nigelp wrote: >> Just discovered, I can access it from home using Firefox, but my work >> laptop seems to struggle.
