hi guys, now im back in the loop a quick update made the tube spacers to prevent the chassis rails from doing this again
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/18022012041.jpg dishing inwards and crushing the tube, however i didn't anticipate the holes top to bottom not being in line :o http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012063.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012057.jpg so i had to correct them by filing the hole oval then round again in the right place but bigger, then i drilled them out 20mm to take the spacers i made which are 42mm long (to give a 5mm raise to weld to) and 20mm O.D http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012061.jpg trial fit http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012062.jpg then i took the wise decision to flush out the rearmost chassis tubes with copious amounts of solvent to ensure maximum cleanliness, then burnt off the vapors to be sure i didn't blow myself up when welding http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012067.jpg all was going well till the last tube spat a flame out into my very large drip tray that was half full with solvent turning the whole thing into a giant barbecue about to roast my engine :o flapping my arms about like a little girl didn't do much to dampen the flames and whacking it with my now scorched crawler board didn't help either, unfortunately the 3kg fire extinguisher made a right mess of everything but at least id put the flames out right, with that out the way (I'm sure ill laugh about it one day) i got on with the task of welding in the tubes http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/01032012068.jpg not too bad either, I'm on track to etch the tubes this weekend and paint it during the week, if i can just find somebody who sells large enough penny washers to use inside the bulkhead ill have it looking like a car again soon..... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group.
