I am just in the process of getting a 1.8 zetec ready to fit in the H4, the
engine is from an escort, the alternator only has two wires connected, one that
will go to the warning light, the other is a quite substantial one which looks
as though it goes to the starter motor on its way to the battery.

That's only on much later cars than a H4 would be based on.
I think it only started on the Duratecs.

Hi all,

Hopfully a simple one for all you experts out there. My alternator is
making lots of noise so i think the bearing are going or gone. the
current one is from the donnor 1.8 CVH sierra, but it is fitted to a
1.8 zetec, it is on my Xtream. The question is what replacemnt do i
need?

I think I read somewhere that the Zetec alternator is controlled by the Ford
ECU - you might want to check the number of connections on the alternator
first. I can't check mine right now, as the H4's off being MoTed..........
