I was talking about the earlier Focus ST with the 4 cylinder "Duratec" which was actually just a tuned version of the blacktop zetec with a Duratec badge.

In my 54 plate mondeo ST TDCi the engine is reported to be of pug origin as it is a 2.2 I am unsure of 'if' the 6 speed box was mated to 2.0 Mondeo. this may explain the driveshaft differences. The focus ST 5 cyl engine came from the volvo S60 stuff, if i remember right. The 2.2 engine looks quite big with all the turbo gubbins and the box on in situ, so would question the width issues.

The 6 speed gearbox on the later Fords with the TDCi engine is a modified MTX75 i believe.

Hi Jim
So if the gearbox from a st170 goes in could you not use the engine as
well ? just a silly thought?.

Do you mean one from a Focus ST170 or one of the later MTX75 gearboxes ? The ST170 gearbox was made by Getrag, i have one i took off a ST170
engine so i could made the engine to a MTX75 4x4 gearbox.
The ST170 gearbox is actually quite short as it's got 3 shafts (with 3
gears on each) not the normal 2 (with 5 or 6 gears on).
It should bolt onto the Zetec block with no problems except some of the
lower gearbox to sump holes may not line up.
It will depend if it is a silver top or blacktop Zetec, the blacktop
should match better.
It does use unique driveshaft splines and joints so you will need to
get some custom driveshafts made.
And, of course you won't have the Mk2/3 Fiesta type mounting locations
on the gearbox so those will need to replace.
Also, the gearchange is cable but as long as you've got the matching
linkage it should be too bad.
I may put the one i have in the 2+2 at some point.

Anyone know if you can fit a six speed gearbox in a saloon when you convert to a Zetec 2.0l. Just thought I'd ask as you never know...
