We would like to add our Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make this
year’s Stoneleigh another great success.

Our return journey was to say the least frustrating! Yesterday we found
that the whole of the area 10 miles in any direction around Warwick was in
gridlock, mostly because the police were on point duty on the A46/M40
interchange trying hard to avoid back-ups on the motorway but actually
causing a 5 mile tail back through Warwick and any other route we tried.
Certainly a day to throw away the GPS as it seemed to have a magnetic
attraction towards snarl-ups - probably because everyone else’s GPS systems
were trying to use the same route. It seemed that all the major roads were
solid and it took 5 hours to get to Marlborough, a journey of usually about
1 hour!

Today I thought I might just check that everything had survived the roasting
in the traffic jams – Oil: OK, Brake fluid: OK, Power steering Oil: OK; hey
wait a minute – No water in the header tank!!!!! No leak was evident and
there was no evidence of any water under the car. A full big kettle of
water later we had water in the header and decided to chance it back. It is
surprising how fast one can go on nothing more than ¼ throttle all the way
home to keep the temperature gauge almost on its lower stop. The fuel
economy was incredible; made up for yesterday’s maxi swallowing effort for
no distance. We just got back home with no apparent loss of water and I was
talking to the neighbours with the engine idling when the leak finally
decided to show itself – all over the driveway! It appears that the side
junction on the pipe that goes between the pump and the rad had decided to
fail – underneath so it could not be seen – and was finally going to give
its all. This is possibly the worst hose for accessibility but as there
will be no water in the rad it is probably better to take that out first so
I can get to the water pump end, which is sandwiched between the power
steering pump and the engine mount. Other practical suggestions are
welcomed. Let’s hope the hoses are still available as I drew a blank on
replacing the engine mounts last month.
