Ah you lucky people, so we have coolant leaks and oil leaks and I have a water cooled charge cooler on the turbo which gradually loses its water but it doesn't have a visible leak it just goes! Ah, that's what the problem was then. On the way up on Monday the Stratford bypass was a bad traffic jam so we came back down the Fosseway via Morton in Marsh and that was OK.
