Agree, my thinking was that there is a coarse filter on the pick up as you mention which stops crud getting to the pump, but if too fine a filter was on the pick up side it could cause flow problems/ cavitation. Was just a thought. Did the problem gradually come and get worse or did it suddenly appear?

I now have an easily replaceable filter, rather than one in the tank.
