I don't think it's a situation where they've sold it to someone else - as there were 10 (now after my 'purchase' 9) available. It would appear they were never available - either by intent (to test the market) or by error.
I've had a couple of people ask for a 'Buy it Now' price on something I'm selling, to find they are wanting it for the starting price - either they are speculating on a resale or just think I'm a mug! I've decided to not get into discussion with them and just say it's only fair to all the watchers to let the auction run.
