The fuel pump will stop if the engine stops. For safety reasons the fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds when your first turn on the ignition, it will then run only as long as the engine is cranked or running.
You need to work out if the engine is stopping because the fuel pump is stopping or if the fuel pump is stopping because the engine is. If they have supplied power directly to the fuel pump and the engine still won’t start or stay running then it’s probably the first. With the fuel pump connected normally. Once the engine has stopped, do the following tests. A. Does the fuel pump run when the engine is cranked ? B. Do you get a spark when the engine is cranked ? If no to both of these then almost certainly the ECU doesn’t know the engine is cranking, suspect the crank sensor or the EDIS module if you engine has one (in the engine bay). If A is no but B is yes then look for faults in the fuel pump control, could be a duff fuel pump relay or dirty fuel pump fuse contacts. If A and B are yes then it is probably a fuel system problem, maybe low fuel pressure, the pump can’t keep up or the pressure regulator is faulty. Or maybe a power problem to the injectors, again a dirty fuse connection. Jim From: Sonia Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2015 1:25 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Quantum Owners] H4 running problems HI all Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on the following Our H4 (1.6 EFi Zetec engine) starts and runs fine for anything between 60 and 90 seconds and then cuts out. It will then turn over but not fire. After anything from 15 minutes to a couple of hours later it will start again and the cycle repeats Our local village garage have determined fuel pump is losing electrical power, hence no fuel to engine and that is why it stops - but they can't figure out why power to fuel pump stops. Fuel pump appears to be ok because if they run a lead to it direct it powers up ok Many thanks Sonia & Pete -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group.
