50Ah does sound too low for a diesel.
It will work, especially during the summer but it may not last as long as a 
higher rated one would.

The washers usually have a one way valve somewhere in the pipe between the pump 
and jets, i would guess this is either stuck or blocked.

Although, have you removed the pump from the bottle ?, there is a rubber filter 
on the inlet to the pump and a some mixtures of washer fluid can react and form 
a sludge that can block the filter.

Sorry that I have been away from Quantum group for so long now, pressures of 
work and all that. 
However I am back with some more questions and observations. Did you try to 
stow your soft tops as Paschal suggested and discover that it cannot be done by 
anyone with a roll bar. Did anyone else have the same experience or did I 
misread the instructions?
Having had some conversations , I was told that there are only five 
turbo-diesels left is that right ? Are they still runners? I do remember 
reading on here of one that was taken to New Zealand , had its turbo removed 
and was being used by a garage. They seem to be so long lived that it appears 
to be improbable unless not many were made.
Moving on, can I ask about what battery to use in my turbo diesel 2+2? Kitty 
(Q2-098) has been fitted with a 50ah one that was exactly the same size as the 
previous one that lasted to my knowledge 9 years. My tame auto electrician (who 
had not come across a 2+2 before) told me that it would not be up to the job. 
At present it is working out fine despite my shortish journey to work and back 
everyday. Is he correct?
I am having a persistent fault with my screen washers. I have replaced the jets 
and put some new hosing in where it was needed but when I press the stalk 
activating it I just get a whirring noise but no water. From the noise I am 
assuming that the pump is working. I have even drained the washer bottle and 
left it full of warm water before dropping in a couple of Sterident (mint 
flavoured) tablets. After draining it must now be the cleanest thing in the 
whole car including me.
Thank you all for the very useful practical advice and encouragement that you 
have given me about the bad illumination in the instrument cluster. I hope to 
be able announce developments in that area quite soon.
