Jon said "I never trust so called professionals where cars are concerned." Agreed. Little story...
Took 2 front wheels/tyres off Wife's Fiat to local garage who fits tyres for Blackcircles. Had tyres fitted, and there was a balance issue. Took them back (this time fitted to the car) and he said he rebalanced them but "sometimes a tyre is impossible to balance, and will go out of balance continually all it's life" That's news to me. He also said "your pads and discs need replacing", to which I said, " Yes, I know they're right down, I've got the new ones in the boot ready to do the job as it happens". Drove the car and although the balance seemed a little better, still not great. Changed pads/discs (incidentally the easiest change on any car we've owned!). Took car back again for a final try, and still no better. Decided that before I try to reject tyre(s) through Blackcircles, I'll try another garage to get them balanced. He had to put total 15g on one (10 in one place 5 in other) and 10g on the other (which had no weights on at all), I saw all the process. Also as it went up on the ramp he (and I) both saw the wires for the pad wear indicator were broken! They were ok when I replaced the pads/discs, and I made sure they were routed exactly as previously...... So, Strange coincidence or not??? Also the balance is great now. I soldered them correctly and avoided the possible fire. I never trust so called professionals where cars are concerned. Always worth investigating any non original bits of a wiring loom. I had an alarm fitted to a Fiesta in the early 90's, it had to be fitted by the alarm company to get the certificate for the car insurance at the time. I watched him fit it and when he had done the wiring i said, "it's ok, i'll put the dash back together later". As soon as he had gone i removed all the Scotch locked in wires and soldered them all. Finding radios and alarm systems connected in with just twisted wires is very common. I unwrapped 18” of the wire back to where it joins up with the rest of the loom. About half way along I found some gaffer tape......... Under the tape was a Really bad bodged join. Two bare wires had been put next to each other and crimped/squashed together, then wrapped in gaffer tape. No solder, no heatshink, no nothing, except hope.....! I have now replaced it with a length of new wire (properly joined). It works now Chris G No virus found in this message.
