The Mk1 I saw on eBay had curved pipes, so maybe that is the difference?

Unfortunately you won't know what you've got until you take it out. As an
alternative/short term fix you can disconnect the two hoses that got into it
(from the engine bay) and connect them together using a short length of 15mm
copper pipe.
It's not like you need the heater in this weather!
DON'T be tempted to get a MK3 matrix, hoping it will fit as it looks the
same in a pic, 'cos it's bigger so doesn't fit.

Picture 3 shows the pipes at the right and a clip just to the left of them.
That whole heater unit is a good price, but you only need the matrix,
which is essentially a small radiator. I would expect the matrix in that
one might be old, so worth getting a new one too.
The matrix is similar to this Mk1 Fiesta one

You can get the matrix out without removing the entire heater unit, as per
your eBay find as this sits at the bottom, and can probably be accessed
easily by removing your centre console. The pipes in the engine bay can be
awkward yo get at.
