Hi Jim, Well, they both looked dodgy to me...
All the big fat earth wires are running alongside the main loom, taped to it outside of the loom tape. There are currently 3 fat earths going back to the battery, plus the huge gearbox one. The fusible link wire was completely outside of the red sleeving which ended at the end of the red wire. Would an inline fuse be a suitable replacement and at what rating? The earth wires are bundled together and then spot (well, bar) welded together, you can see the lines across the conductors where they were squashed between the electrodes. The thinner black wire on the main battery wire is a fusible link, it's special wire that is designed to blow before the main wire does if there is any shorts on an unfused circuit. It should have been inside red sleeving to stop any molten metal escaping if it does melt. It would have been originally crimped to the red wire with a brass crimp so that one has been replaced or the cable shortened but it does look correct otherwise. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped that bit to be greeted by a sea of red wires.........
