This way is a bit simpler, and doesn't require any plugins or filters - I've just used the circle drawing patch (it's a private patch so you need to turn on private patches to see it - option-click on QC's preferences to view the hidden prefs, go to 'system' an turn on 'QCShowPrivatePatches'). There's a rectangle patch there too that's also hugely useful (suggestion to apple: these are too useful to be kept private!)
