Its supposed to automatically fallback to CPU if your GPU doesnt support OpenCL, but there is a bug that prevents this from working properly at the moment.

I stumbled upon a workaround that will make OpenCL run on the CPU:

In Quartz Composer, go into preferences whilst holding down the alt key, go to the system section and tick 'QCDisableCLOpenGLSharing'. Restart QC and OpenCL will now work using the CPU only.

Yes, I was ware of that the X1600 isn't capable of OpenCL.
I was just wondering how to get it run on CPU.
Just like the Intel GMA 950 isn't capable to run Core Image filters.
But Apple made Core Image to run on CPU on that machines...
of course at very high CPU load and very low performance.
Just liked the idea of being able to peek into OpenCL without proper hardware.

The X1600 isn't supported by OpenCL, as far as I know, so OpenCL partches won't run on the GPU. Dunno if they can be forced to run on the CPU on your machine, though.

Hello Stoney,
this is going to be off-topic but...
Do I understand you right? You run OpenCL on the CPU?
How does that work. I cannot get anything on the screen
which has to do with OpenCL.
I always get something like:
21:45:44.064 [""drawBorderImage"" @ "Macro Patch"] >
Initialization failed
I have an iMac Early 2006 (32bit Core Duo with an ATI
Radeon X1600).
