Regarding ATI 4870 systems (and probably 4850 too) using CPU rather
than GPU for OpenCL, I think this is a ATI driver bug, or at least I
read on some non-QC forum post about OpenCL benchmark programs
something that suggests there are ATI driver issues with OpenCL that
they are trying to resolve for a future update, but it didnt get
sorted in time for the 10.6.1 update.
This problem and the failure of OpenCL to fallback to CPU in QC that I
mentioned in previous message really took the shine off the Snow
Leopard launch for me, and the longer it goes unfixed the more I
consider abandoning QC at some point in the future due to lack of
signals from Apple that they really take it seriously.

Hello Stoney,
this is going to be off-topic but...
Do I understand you right? You run OpenCL on the CPU?
How does that work. I cannot get anything on the screen which has
to do with OpenCL.
I always get something like:
21:45:44.064 [""drawBorderImage"" @ "Macro Patch"] > Initialization
failed
I have an iMac Early 2006 (32bit Core Duo with an ATI Radeon X1600).

I don't know why it does that, but on my (early 2009) Mac Pro with
an ATI HD 4870, I'm getting only CPU rendering of OpenCL Kernel
objects in QC. I was initially not aware of that because Apple touts
OpenCL compatibility for that card in Snow Leopard, and it was
rendering fairly quickly on the CPU, using all 16 hyperthreads.
Seems rather buggy. However, your card isn't listed here:
OpenCL
requires one of the following graphics cards or graphics processors:
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 8600M GT,
GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce 8800 GT,
GeForce 8800 GS, Quadro FX 4800, Quadro FX5600
• ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870
So I guess all bets are off.
