I need to track blobs of color in a live video feed, as close to real-time as possible. The goal is to find continuous roundish regions (blobs) of a particular color, and emit their coordinates and sizes in some way that another process can read.

I've never used Quartz Composer before, and I'm not sure if it can even do this sort of thing. What I want isn't an image filter -- the output should be just a handful of numbers, not an image. I found this thread, which suggests that blob tracking may be possible, but apparently only under Rosetta: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/2524/

But that thread's pretty old by now too. Can anyone clue me in on the current situation? Is this the sort of thing Composer can do, or should I be looking at writing a custom app in ObjC?

Thanks,
- Joe
