Hm. After playing with this some more it appears the
NSInternalInconsistencyException I got was triggered by a different
issue with the intentionally-broken composition I fed my test app,
not the missing-patch-on-restoration issue mentioned.
Apologies for the hubris. Continuing to investigate.
