Exactly~! I guess I should stop torturing myself and go to Javascript
if it will save me time. Is javascript generally considered a bad (or
okay) thing as far as performance goes?
thanks again,

Is this what you want?
<Fit Image Always No Cropping.qtz>
No extra render in image pass.

I'm trying what I think you described and it doesn't seem to fill
the screen properly.. the image I'm using is 1024 x 682 and in
the (512 x 384) viewer window, the image appears cropped. When I
full-screen the viewer, it appears with black borders. Have I
lost something in translation?
In this case, just take Rendering Destination Dimensions' Width and
Height outputs (in QC units), and feed them to Billboard's Width
and Height inputs (also in QC units) -- that should scale it to
fill the screen without preserving the image's aspect ratio (no
cropping, just squishing/stretching).
As for the math, I'd have to think about it some more -- working in
pixels in QC is a bit tricky sometimes, and prior advice may have
messed up a detail?
