Hey George, sorry for the delay. You can actually pull down on the split view below the dropdown menu. This will expose a table view with all your top-level categories, including all Smart Groups. You can doubleclick on the name to edit the title or double click on the icon to edit the rules.
It can be useful to leave this open if you want the search field to filter just certain groups. You can cmd-click to select non-contiguous categories to include in the search filter. Hope that helps!
