I have written a couple of patches and would be willing to help you with what I know. It is actually not very difficult to code but hopefully you have an understanding of using Quartz Composer and some programming experience with Cocoa. The template created by Xcode for a QC patch is very good. It provides all the necessary entry, execution and exit points for QC along with adequate code annotation . The templates along with Apple's docs should be all you need.
