Tom,

That is extremely kind. I'm doing ok in QC and rather enjoy it a lot. However, I don't have any background in Cocoa, ObjectiveC or any other kind of C, so I'm not sure I'd be ready for what you're offering. I'd be happy to be wrong, though...

With apologies for the thread drift, I'm not immediately looking into developing my own patches just yet. More generally, I just want to get better acquainted with the Xcode environment and maybe make some standalone QC apps (and yes, I've used and love Kineme's excellent Quartz Builder).

I also need to get going with JavaScript, but I've kind of got my plate full right now just playing in QC and Processing, wrestling in PHP, learning Drupal, etc., etc...

I'll keep following the list and ping when I have the occasional question.

Out of curiosity, are there any QC'ers on this list in the Austin, TX area? Would love to join/start a QC meetup group.

Thanks again Tom, and I'll look forward to learning from you and others as I come up to speed.

I have written a couple of patches and would be willing to help you with what I know. It is actually not very difficult to code but hopefully you have an understanding of using Quartz Composer and some programming experience with Cocoa. The template created by Xcode for a QC patch is very good. It provides all the necessary entry, execution and exit points for QC along with adequate code annotation . The templates along with Apple's docs should be all you need.

I learned a lot from Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X by Aaron Hillegass. If you'll pay for shipping, you can have my copy!

[\] These aren't things that have simple tutorials. There are Xcode templates to create QC plugins, so the "interesting" stuff (setting up bundles, installation locations, framework linkings, etc.) is done for you. Time modes are documented here: [\]

I see there are a number of Xcode books out and available on Amazon. Are there any good recommendations for getting started?
