Doesn't it just use QC's coordinate system where origin is in the center?

ie, if you manually set a Render In Image to be say, a set pixel size, a 
billboard at 0, 0, with width of 2 will be "640" pixels wide and fill the 
output image horizontally, and if its set to auto-height, it will fill the 
image the exact same way the Viewer would be filled by the same billboard 
settings…

Im 99% sure thats how it works :)
