well i can get it working everytime on baremetal ubuntu now. What I do is set lock to 5 mins. idevicepair pair, then leave device connected and log out and in. then dcim folder then appears in file manager. works everytime. Now to figure out how I reproduced this in qubes debian lol.
Unfortunately until they update libimobiledevice you can only back up camera pictures + videos, and texted pics.
