Glad you were able to get it installed and try it out. 8GB should be sufficient- I wonder if it's not a bad stick. I missed having a graphical representation of networking too, when I came to Qubes from other OS/virtualization products. Not sure what you mean by ethernet tethering passthrough in context of Qubes.
