If your apparatus is indoors where GPS reception is not possible, you could use a CDMA timing receiver (such as this one from EndRun: http://www.endruntechnologies.com/pdf/PraecisCt.pdf) to make one of your machines a stratum 1 NTP server. If running ntpd on the other three machines does not provide adequate performance, you could then try running chrony on those machines. (Chrony clients exchange standard NTP packets with NTP servers.)
