Two of my Garmin 18 (not x) seem to have bit the dust after about 3
years. That is in Vancouver, where the winters can be pretty rainy, and
the units were unprotected.

It must be a kinder climate in Edinburgh - my single GPS 18 LVC has been
happily sitting outside for over six years, quite a lot of that time
sitting on the roof. The 18x is sensitive enough to work indoors.

Oslo is probably at least as variable as either of those two, my own 18 has been sitting on the roof since the day I install edit, which is quite a number of years ago. (I guess a quick google of this newsgroup will tell me approximately when!)
