In itself this is true, but be careful.  It may be that your old receiver
consumes so much energy and has so much valuable material in it that it would
actually be better to get a new one and recycle this old one.

I have old GPS receivers and they are quite power-hungry, insensitive, and
have a small number of active satellites.  New receivers are much better,
except maybe in the PPS department.
