1. Windows Users Preview QuickTime 7
.....................................
On June 6, Apple released a public preview of QuickTime 7 Player and
QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows, the industry's first mainstream H.264
solution for streaming and playback of high-definition (HD) video on the
Windows platform.
Ratified as part of the MPEG-4 standard, the H.264 video codec delivers
pristine quality video across a broad range of bandwidths, from 3G for
mobile devices to iChat AV for video conferencing to HD for broadcast
and DVD. Both the DVD Forum and Blu-ray Disc Association have adopted
H.264 for the next generation of HD DVDs.
QuickTime 7 also features multi-channel audio support, live resizing for
smooth viewing and all-new playback controls, including jog shuffle and
variable speed playback.

7. The Buzz on H.264
.....................
Starting with the QuickTime 7 technology demonstration at NAB 2004,
everyone saw why H.264 is so amazing: stunning quality, lower bit rates,
incredible scalability and an MPEG standard. But these features are also
taking the television industry by storm, as many companies are devloping
H.264-based content for HDTV.
Major Direct-to-Home satellite television broadcasters across France,
Germany and the UK have unveiled their plans to deploy H.264. This news
comes hot on the heels of recent announcements that both BSkyB in the UK
and DIRECTV in the US will use H.264 encoding for their HDTV services.
Check out some of the solutions broadcasters are implementing from
market leaders, such as Tandberg TV, and keep up on H.264 news at the
MPEG Industry Forum website.
