That way, when you send information to the midi out ports, it won't come shooting back through the midi in ports into qws, and back out the midi out ports... and so on. it'll just go straight to vst host. I'm not sure how the outs got unchecked, but keep those checked. it's the ins you want unchecked.

Firstly, why on earth do you have a yamaha USB in for a casio keyboard? Secondly, no, because when you do that, it will not receive any midi events from qws. Qws, by default, sends the information it receives from all active midi in ports back through the currently selected midi out port anyways, so it's better to do it that way. Plus, you have more control over channels / programs / bank numbers as well as exactly what ports you're using. You wouldn't, for instance, be able to have two vst synths loaded using just your casio keyboard for midi input, since you need one input port per synth to tell vst host which synth to use at any given time. This is why we use midi yoke instead. | You mean the Device Menu and select MIDI or the Engine Menu and select Configure, right? device/midi is for configuring all of the midi devices vst host should load when started. The plugin/configure midi devices option will control exactly which midi device is assigned to each individual plugin. If you left this at the default, the plugin would respond to midi events from all loaded midi devices, which would be a disaster if you had more than one synth loaded.
