You should be able to send program change commands to switch the sound --
it's the third parameter in the track properties pane, which you access
using ALT+Enter. This is dependent, of course, on having sound fonts loaded
for the program numbers.
Most sound font setups use only the most significant bit of program change,
so in QWS you'll need to change banks using values of 0, 128, 256, and
upward in multiples of 128.
It may help to get a program list from your sound font bank using Viena or
another accessible  program that works as a sound font librarian, then turn
it into an INST file for your particular banks. There are slow and exacting
ways to do this, but I use a method I worked out using Excel (or if you
don't have it, Excelviewer, which is free) and Notepad. The latter method
makes it far easier to avoid the kinds of errors that create problems in
QWS.
