For some snapshots of global networking developments during the mid-90s, you might find Olivier Crepin-Leblond's Internetology maps interesting. They are not totally up to date , but depending on what data you would like to visualize, they may be helpful. They are organized by region, i.e. the connectivity developments for a specific world region over a period of several years, or by date, i.e. a snapshot of worldwide connectivity at a specific point in time.
