images. Others should be a little cautious, but it's well worth

Matrix Information and  Directory Services, Inc. has some free info on
traffic patterns.  Very authoritative. Run by John Quarterman who wrote
The Matrix--the first geography of internetworks.

In addition to the numerous references already posted...

For some snapshots of global networking developments during the mid-90s,
you might find Olivier Crepin-Leblond's Internetology maps interesting.
They are not totally up to date , but depending on what data you would
like to visualize, they may be helpful.

They are organized by region, i.e. the connectivity developments for a
specific world region over a period of several years, or by date, i.e. a
snapshot of worldwide connectivity at a specific point in time. They
show the evolution of when the various technologies were introduced -
Fido, UUCP, IP...
