Thanks for all the suggestions - but I need more help. I upgraded to R
2.12.0 and installed on my win7 - 64 system but still cannot start speedR as
shown in the transcript below. My classpath system variable points at java
6:

.;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\lib\ext\QTJava.zip

and that file exists, but apparently there's something else needed to get
Java connected properly to R, since I'm getting these messages:

Error in .jinit() : Cannot create Java virtual machine (-4)
Error in .jinit() : Cannot create Java virtual machine (-1)
