I've failed so far at getting R 2.6.0 (R-devel) to build as 64-bit on my Mac Pro under Leopard, but at the moment I don't have time to detail my errors.
The simple question at the moment, since I was wondering if it might impact building of this and other programs is the 4-architecture binary of gfortran on the r.research.att.com website. If you install it and run "file /usr/local/bin/gfortran-4.2" in the Terminal, it reports a "Mach-O executable i386" and a "Mach-O executable ppc". Shouldn't "file" also report a ppc64 and an x86_64 executable if it's for 4-architectures? That was the case for other programs that I've installed that were for 4-archs. Also, could someone please provide: 1) Date of latest successfully building R-Devel for 64-bit on Leopard. It seemed like my errors were different for different dates, so it seemed possible to me that new additions, irrespective of Leopard issues, to this alpha development release could cause things to fail...? 2) working configure commmands (in other words, should I still just be typing in what's listed for building 64-bit R on Simon's web-site? with changing "8.8.1" to "9.0.0") Thank you!
