Hello R-SPEC, We will have our first ever annual meeting next Sunday, February 15th, at 1pm in the private room at the Twelve Corners Bagel Bin. At this meeting members will receive an annual report from our existing Board of Directors. We will discuss that report and we'll hold elections for a new Board.
Our Bylaws call for an annual election of the Board of Directors by the membership. Directors are group members with the collective duty to set group policy. Officers are Directors with additional duties and are appointed to their posts by the Board. Our Board is currently comprised of nine Directors including six Officers: a President, a Vice-President, a Marketing Officer, a Technology Officer, a Secretary and a Treasurer. It is possible for one Director to hold two offices unless those offices are President and Treasurer. We now have one Director serving as both Technology Officer and Marketing Officer. We have four additional at-large Directors for nine Directors total. Several people have stepped up and indicated that they will be running for Board positions and in addition, are interested in holding an office. All dues-paying members are eligible to be nominated to the ballot. In an effort to encourage broader involvement, we've arranged the rules so that members that have not yet paid their $25/year dues, may do so at the meeting and become eligible for the ballot on the spot. We understand that the country is in a recession. If there is a financial hardship that prevents you from becoming a dues-paying member, please contact me privately at [email protected]. If you are thinking of running for a Board position and have not indicated this to either our Secretary, Janice Carello, or to me, please let one of us know as soon as possible. While any dues-paying member can get onto the ballot Sunday, it would facilitate the process to have a preliminary ballot set before we meet. Please be aware that if you are elected as a Director, you may be appointed by the Board to fill an officership with additional duties as set out by the Board. I'll send out the preliminary ballot as it stands at the end of this week.
