I was saddened that Alexander McQueen killed himself this week:  he
was always our designer, the designer of science fiction.  Look at his
magnificent last show:

But that got me thinking.  This week the fashions at fashion week are
heavily influenced by SF, and not just the usual dystopia-as-punk
theme, but a bunch of alien nature Avatar stuff.  E.g., Gaultier:

It makes me wonder if it's a harbinger.  SF has invaded in a
definitive way haute couture.  The last, left-behind geeks finally
have inherited the highest promintories....
