Hi all; Thanks for allowing me to join your group. This is my first contribution.
I saw you recent discussion about No Certainties & Balmuse. I think the Balmuse/Kelt affair was 'straight up' - but there were a set of percular circumstances. "Dummy" Myers has been around long enough to know the scratching rules, so Balmuse should have started at Ellerslie - on balance I think the horse ran its best. But at Hastings the Kelt was a strange race - the track was watered on Monday and then it rained on Wednesday or Thursday - the fire was certainly out of the track - St Reims owner criticised the club for the watering on Monday and left for Oz - he did the right thing. Starcraft, by going to the front set himself up to be run over and Balmuse did just that in its natural racing style.
The real truth is revealed in Oz - Balmuse failed miserably in races & on tracks which suited him. Starcraft proved to be not the star his owner thought he was. St Reims has gone from strength to strength and faired pretty well in Oz & at home since. Look at Caulfield 2000m WFA 0n 9 Oct - 1/ Mummify 2/ Grand Armee 3/ Starcraft 4/ Kings Chapel 6/ St Reims (4 lgths from 1st).
I'd like to know what you guys think of Gee I Jane? - How does an average sprinter suddenly become the best in the country? Where does this horses ability come from? I know she had a fair weight advantage at Avondale - but she won so well - perhaps the rest were off colour/had poor rides and she had a perfect run - I can't see it.
Is she good enough to win the Railway or the Telegraph?
Regards
Fuzzy Trev
