#### This is the single most annoying feature of these fixed-odds markets . 
. . the seemingly random nature by which events are chosen to be fielded on. 
If New Zealand had genuine bookmakers, instead of these Soviet-era, 
state-controlled cardigan wearers, we'd be able to bet on the entire card 
from a premier day meeting. I can see the bookies being reluctant to set a 
market on maiden races with a heap of first starters but picking and 
choosing where to field on a day like yesterday is plain ridiculous.

I feel a column coming on.
