[Neil] They're turning Ellerslie into a major
apartment/housing/entertainment/restaurant/corporate venue, blah, blah. The
whole facility is used for horse racing on just 26 days each year, so they want
to ensure its future [profitable] by maximising its benefits to the wider
public. A new National Racing Museum will be built, a flash new birdcage
restaurant, and upgrade of a host of other function areas.
From next summer, Ellerslie will run twilight
meetings every Wednesday from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Six or seven races for the lower
classes. Exciting stuff . . . I can't wait :-o While on the Auckland racecourse subject,
I wonder how long before the Avondale racecourse is closed down. Shifting their
meetings to Ellerslie would increase the number of racedays there. The Avondale
course is rundown and no money has been spent on it for as long as I can
remember. And it's a city track . . . a blot on the landscape in my
opinion.

Neil
