Certainly one of my favourite races too, Gil. I can still see GREY WAY
bullocking his way through the field in the final 250m. His 'match races'
with COPPER BELT in the Central Districts were fantastic too.

The new administration at the ARC is attempting to achieve this with the new
March carnival [starting in 2006], albeit over one week only ... Saturday -
Wednesday - Saturday ... featuring the NZ Derby and the Auckland Cup. With
the Wellington Cup run in late January, it'll be interesting to see how many
of the Trentham runners hang around 'til March.
