I think there are a few jocks who may suggest there is more to it than just steering...but I take your point, you can't factor in what you can't foresee...I guess I take the line that luck in the running is a huge part of winning races and some jockeys, on certain horses, will increase the likelihood of avoiding bad luck...especially when it comes to your original statement alluding to judging pace and being in the best position to win the race.
